SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah troopers say they arrested a 23-year-old driver on suspicion of drunken driving after he crashed a car four hours after it was purchased.

Authorities say the crash happened in the Salt Lake City area an hour after the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day.

Utah Highway Patrol officials say the man was traveling on Interstate 215 toward eastbound Interstate 80 when he apparently took a curve too fast.

Witnesses say the vehicle went into oncoming traffic before overcorrecting and going off the road. It hit a rock face, rolled and slid.

Officials say bystanders cut the driver out of his seatbelt. He had a shoulder injury but declined to be taken to the hospital.

Troopers say the car had only 78 miles on the odometer.
