DELTA — Each year Delta Middle School holds its annual food drive, and this year they had a goal of reaching 14,000 items within a three week time period.

"We live in a wonderful community where people are willing to give of their time, talents and financial support," said a representative from DMS. "This generosity is evident as our schools are so often the recipients of thoughtful acts of kindness."

Each of the three weeks focused on a theme for the drive. The first week the students collected paper and hygiene products, collecting 3,507 items; the second week focused on packaged food items, collection 2,939 items; and the last week focused on canned items, collecting 8,189 items. The students rose to the challenge, and between the three weeks 14,635 items were gathered in total.

School representatives said the event was sponsored by Jubilee, Quality Market and Alco, who gave generous donations and otherwise supported the drive.

"It is with sincere gratitude that we wish to express our thanks to all of our students and community members who participated in this event," the representative said. "We would also like to thank all the parents, we recognize this would not be possible without your help and support as well."
