LAYTON — A woman accused of passing counterfeit $20 bills was arrested on numerous counts of forgery Wednesday.
Kendra Marie Neal, 32, of North Ogden, was arrested for investigation of nearly 30 counts of forgery and booked into the Davis County Jail.
Neal was arrested Wednesday night at Wal-Mart, 745 W. Hill Field Road, after police were alerted by employees that she was back in the store, said Layton Police Sgt. John Holden.
"They recognized her as having passed counterfeit bills on two previous occasions," Holden said.
Detectives believe she also passed counterfeit $20 bills at the Wal-Mart on Nov. 29 and Dec. 3.
As Neal and her boyfriend walked out of the store to the parking lot, police stopped her and asked to search her day planner, according to a Davis County Jail booking report. Inside, officers found a counterfeit $20 bill and four altered $1 bills, the report stated.
When detectives searched Neal's purse, they found six uncut pages of fake $20 bills. Five of the pages were of the backs of $20 bills. The other page had the printed front side of $20 bills, according to the report.
In the Nov. 29 incident, nine counterfeit $20 bills were passed, the report stated. On Dec. 3, 17 phony $20s were passed. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and recognized Neal and her boyfriend in each incident, the report stated.
In the videos, Neal was the only one see passing the fake $20 bills. She was also the only one with fake $20s in her possession according to police. Her boyfriend denied having any involvement.
Holden did not know if Neal had attempted to pass the fake money at any other stores. He also did not know if the bills were high-quality fakes or where she obtained them.
Court records show Neal has a minor criminal history in Utah, including recent animal control incidents in North Ogden Justice Court.
