SALT LAKE CITY — A suspected bank robber apparently wanted to get the words just right on his note to the teller demanding cash.

Mathew Lewis Brown, 37, robbed U.S. Bank, 1575 S. Main, on Dec. 2 by handing the teller a note saying he had a gun and wanted money, according to a federal complaint. Police identified Brown using surveillance video and arrested him a day later.

During a search of a South Salt Lake motel where Brown was staying, investigators found a notepad with practice notes written in the same style as the one left at the bank, according to the complaint. Police also found the shirt and hoodie he wore during the robbery, the complaint says.

Brown faces one count of bank robbery.
