SALT LAKE CITY — Motorists were warned to expect a slick-in-spots and potentially slow commute Wednesday morning.

Cold air moving in from the north sent a chill down the Wasatch Front following Tuesday's snowstorm. While the snowfall overnight was not as strong in many places as Tuesday, wet roads froze, creating slick spots.

Big and Little Cottonwood canyons are restricted to vehicles with four wheel drive or chains.

A crash on northbound I-15 near 5000 South jammed traffic in the Salt Lake Valley. Other accidents were reported along the Wasatch Front as well.

UDOT said roads are mostly clear. However, due to the cold temperatures and patchy road ice, motorists were warned to expect a slick commute from Roy south through Utah Valley.

KSL Meteorologist Grant Weyman said Salt Lake County and south will likely see more snow throughout the day. Get the forecast on the KSL Weather Page.

Uintah County Schools were canceled Wednesday due to the severe snow fall and bad weather conditions. Many of the kids took advantage of the snow day and went sledding near the Dinaland Golf Course.

"When my mom first told me that school had been canceled, I was like 'What?!' I thought I was dreaming or something," said one student.

Numbers reported by Vernal residents put the total snowfall in Vernal at 12 inches with 13 inches of snow in Naples. At some areas near the Utah State University branch in Vernal, the snow was 18 inches.

"I shoveled my walk three times and you know every time I shoveled it, it seemed like it was four inches each time," said resident Jeff Williams.

School will be back in session Thursday.

Tuesday Utah Highway Patrol reported a total of 167 crashes in Salt Lake County with 20 injuries, 75 accidents in Utah County with seven injuries, and 62 accidents in Davis County.
