MURRAY — Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder said it is time the state transportation agency and engineers take a look at a home's dangerous vulnerability given that cars have slammed into it twice now.

The latest crash happened about 8:20 p.m. Saturday when a car getting off I-215 southbound at the 4500 South exit simply kept going, failing to negotiate the curve. The car crossed both lanes of traffic and slammed into the front room of the house and rolled on its side.

Despite the spectacular nature of the crash, Winder said all the occupants of the vehicle as well as the person inside the house escaped uninjured.

"It really is a miracle," he said.

He said inspectors were on scene determining the extent of the damage to the home and if it is inhabitable.

Winder noted that damage from an earlier car-vs-house encounter was still evident, indicating the situation merits review.

"This is an unfortunate location," he said. " We have had a real history here. The home behind me has already been struck once. We will certainly be talking to the Department of Transportation to see what engineering options we have because we do have an issue here." Email: amyjoi@deseretnews.com Twitter: amyjoi16
