SALT LAKE CITY — The warning came just hours before the first known avalanche of the season was reported.

The avalanche was triggered in the Rocky Point area near Alta.

One person was carried away in the avalanche, which was nearly two feet deep and 60 feet wide.

The victim, who was part of a ski tour, was not injured.

Crews from the avalanche center are headed to the scene and will provide more information later this evening.

Experts say anyone in the back country over the next few days needs to be very cautious.
