MADISON — The BYU Cougars traveled to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis. to take on the Badgers of the University of Wisconsin.

Hopes were high for the Cougars as they rode a five-game win streak into Madison, but it was not to be. The Gary Andersen led Badgers controlled the game from start to finish and beat the Cougars 27-17.

Wisconsin opened up the scoring on their very first series.

"Wisconsin QB could take a nap, grab some snacks, watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy, then throw a pass," tweeted former BYU tight end Johnny Harline.

The defense had a rough firs series, but for the most part they played well forcing two turnovers and giving the offense opportunities. The offense, however, had a tough time taking advantage.

"Early 2nd qtr BYU def hanging tough, 3 consec 3-&-outs after opening WI td. Offense only 2 1st downs, must start moving chains," tweeted former Cougar and current ESPN analyst Trevor Matich.

BYU had their troubles on offense, but QB Taysom Hill finally connected with Cody Hoffman for an impressive 34-yard touch down.

"That's what happens when you isolate Hoffman and chuck up a 50/50 ball," tweeted @GuntherKFAN. "He makes a play."

That toss cut the Wisconsin lead to 20-10, but the Badgers would add another score and BYU would answer with a three and out.

The Cougars managed to push down the field late in the fourth and Hoffman got another TD catch. That cut the lead back to 10 with BYU trailing 27-17. BYU went for the on sides kick and wouldn't get it, but the defense did force a punt.

The Cougars got the ball back with a little over two minutes, but they came up empty handed. Many Cougar fans were less than impressed with the play calling on the final drive.

"When scientists look for life on Mars, they look for that last BYU drive," tweeted @Cougaracity.

"I'm questioning BYU's coach's sobriety after that last drive," tweeted @DoctorStark.

"BYU played the final series like they were down one score instead of two," tweeted former BYU linebacker Brandon Ogletree.

The Cougars now fall to 6 and 3 on the season and will square off against Idaho State next Saturday in Provo.
