SOUTH JORDAN — A string of thefts has South Jordan police asking the public to help identify the alleged thief.

On Oct. 28 at approximately 4:01 p.m., Chris Payton had a box of computer parts that he needed for work stolen from his porch in the 3900 West block of Sandy Lake Drive. But Payton was able to get catch a glimpse of the alleged robber with a surveillance camera.

"It's infuriating that someone would just steal it," Payton said. "He even had a smirk on his face."

Payton said that he had video showing the same man coming to his house three times before he stole the package, and Payton has given the videos to police to help with their investigation.

"I've never had this happen before. Thankfully, it wasn't a big-dollar item, but it caused a lot of trouble at work. It has made me think to never do that again," Payton said.

The victim said that neighbors have also reported recent thefts.

"My next door neighbor, the same day, they had their back door kicked in," he said. "Behind us, one of our neighbors had a bunch of stuff stolen out of their garage."

Police are turning to the public to help identify the man in the surveillance video.

With the holiday season coming up, police are recommending that people have their packages sent to work or ask delivery companies to hold their packages for pickup.
