WEST VALLEY CITY — Police are asking for the public's help finding a man accused of attacking a woman in the restroom of a fast food restaurant.

Police say the man followed the 20-year-old victim as she went inside a West Valley City Burger King to use the bathroom. Authorities hope a newly released surveillance video will lead to a quick arrest.

The video shows the man casually walking inside the Burger King at 3500 South and 5600 West just before 3 a.m.

"She definitely doesn't know the suspect," said Sgt. Jason Hauer of the West Valley City Police Department. "She had seen him potentially outside."

According to police, the man confronted the woman and physically and sexually assaulted her.

There were some words exchanged, essentially telling her to be quiet, shut up, and not make any noise.

"There were some words exchanged, essentially telling her to be quiet, shut up, and not make any noise," Hauer said.

The victim's screams and cries for help caught the attention of restaurant workers, who didn't know anyone was in the restaurant.

"Typically, the restaurant portion is closed, and there's just the drive-through that's open," Hauer said.

For some reason, the doors were unlocked overnight.

The victim had gone inside while her friends got food in the drive-through.

The victim's screams and cries for help caught the attention of restaurant workers, who didn't know anyone was in the restaurant.

"When they didn't see her come out of the restroom in what they determined was a normal time frame, they went into the restaurant to locate her," Hauer said.

Hauer said one of her friends checked the bathroom and walked in on the attack. By then, a worker had 911 on the phone.

Video shows the suspect leaving the bathroom, trying to cover his face with his jacket.

The man may have scratches on his face, police said, since the victim tried to fight back.

In addition to video evidence, there could be DNA evidence processed too.
