WEST VALLEY CITY — Police were looking Tuesday for four men who fired seven to nine rounds at a newspaper delivery man.

Just after 6 a.m., a man was delivering newspapers in the area of 5310 West and 4065 South, when an older model, silver Honda Accord pulled up and stopped in the intersection, said West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer.

"Four Hispanic males exited the vehicle and yelled at the victim," Hauer said.

Police did not disclose Tuesday what the men were yelling. One of the men then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the victim, a man in his late 30s, from about 35 to 40 feet away, he said.

The man delivering newspapers took cover behind his car, Hauer said. His vehicle was hit several times, and two bullets struck nearby garages.

No one was hurt in the incident. Nearby Carl Sandburg Elementary was briefly placed on lockdown while the incident was investigated.

Hauer said investigators did not know Tuesday what the motive for the shooting was or why the man was targeted. Anyone with information on the suspects or the shooting can call police at 801-840-4000.
