LOVELAND, Ohio — A class of Ohio grade-schoolers believe they have a special connection to victims of the Colorado flooding. To help, they have started a project called "Loveland to Loveland."

"Something just struck me in the gut and said we need to do something at school," said Loveland Intermediate School fifth-grade teacher Laura Holtkamp. "We're Loveland, Ohio. We need to help Loveland, Colorado."

Each student in the school's fifth and sixth grades is spending time this week writing a personal letter to a middle school student in their sister city in the Rockies.

"I want them to feel like, 'Oh, well somebody actually cares about this and they are going to help us,'" said fifth-grader Raymond Barrish.

The kids plan to send letters of hope, and they want to help Coloradoans recover from the devastation.

"We've been trying to raise money for them so they can rebuild homes, buy new clothing, you know, get back stuff that was destroyed," Raymond said.

The classes are still working out final plans for sending money to Colorado. In the meantime, the American Red Cross is accepting donations.
