HEBER CITY — Investigators suspect a medical problem may be to blame for a head-on crash Friday near Strawberry Reservoir that left a Salt Lake City woman dead.
Edyth Diane Zito, 74, was driving west on US-40 about 11 a.m. when she failed to follow a curve in the road, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Joe Dougherty.
A medical helicopter was called to the crash site, but Zito died at the scene.
"It appears a medical condition may be involved," he said, when asked about a possible cause of the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck, Todd Russell Johnson, 53, of Midway, was taken by ambulance to Heber Valley Medical Center with minor injuries, Dougherty said.
The crashed closed the highway for about an hour.
