SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - New figures show Utah's unemployment rose slightly in August, but remains as low as it's been in five years.
The Department of Workforce Services reports Friday that Utah's jobless rate was 4.7 percent in August. That's up slightly from 4.6 percent in July, and well below the national jobless rate of 7.3 percent.
The state's unemployment rate has been below 5 percent every month since March. That's the first time the rate has dipped that low since November 2008. The rate peaked at 8.4 percent in January 2010, but has steadily declining since as the economy rebounds.
The state says there were 33,000 more jobs added in August compared to the same month the previous year. State officials say there were increases in all eleven private sector industries.
