HURRICANE — Several streets in Hurricane were closed Wednesday due to large amounts of debris from flooding.
Hurricane received a large amount of rain Wednesday morning which caused several roadways to flood. The Hurricane City Police Department reported a single traffic accident as a result of the flooding. A car slid off the road at 2800 W. State Street. There were no reported injuries with the accident.
The intersection at 1150 West and 200 North was closed due to a large river flowing down Gulls Wash near the road. Old Highway 91 was also closed, and a large amount of mud was washed onto 600 N. 2000 West. Residents were asked to use alternate routes while the areas were being cleared of mud and debris.
Crews from Hurricane City Public Works and the Hurricane Fire Department responded to reports of flooding near 2050 S. 160 West. Waterfalls ran down a cliff near the residential area and caused water, mud and debris to run down 2050 South. Crews and youth volunteers from Hurricane High School filled and placed sandbags to keep the water from flooding homes.
Several homes and basements were flooded in the area, according to Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell.
Residents with flooding are asked to contact the Hurricane Police Department at 435-627-4999.
