CEDAR CITY — Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting a person before stealing the victim's car Thursday.
Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of an assault near 1000 South and Main Street. Police reported John Luke Sanchez III, 45, had assaulted another adult male after the man gave him a ride to the area.
Sanchez allegedly befriended the victim at a local bar before assaulting him and stealing the man's vehicle. The man walked to a nearby business to contact police. He received minor injuries in the assault and received treatment at a local hospital as a result, police said.
Utah Highway Patrol later located the vehicle, which was stopped, near Leeds. Sanchez was taken into custody.
Police found a warrant for his arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, and booked Sanchez into the Iron County Correctional Facility on suspicion of aggravated robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor assault in connection with Thursday's events.
