SALINA, Sevier County— A fire damaged three or four classrooms at Salina Elementary School Thursday evening.
Salina Police Chief Greg Harwood said dispatch received several calls from people reporting they could see flames and black smoke coming from the roof of the elementary school around 6 p.m. The Salina Fire Department and neighboring Aurora and Richfield Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with police officers.
"They were able to get the fire out quite quickly; however, there were several classrooms that were seriously damaged mostly from the smoke and the water damage," Harwood said.
The fire appeared to mostly be contained to the roof, Harwood said.
School officials were also at the scene, and said they will be able to hold school tomorrow, Harwood said. The classrooms damaged by the fire will be closed and students will be relocated to other areas of the school.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and the State Fire Marshall was at the school investigating. No one was hurt or injured in the fire.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
