KEARNS — An argument over money Thursday led to a woman stabbing her boyfriend, police said.

Just after noon, officers were called to a domestic dispute at 5416 S. 5425 West. A couple had been arguing about money, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

"She gets knife and stabs the victim multiple times," he said.

Officers arrived to find the 46-year-old man outside the house. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. But when officers tried to get the woman to come out of the house, she wouldn't answer the door.

"Once our officers got here, we realized that the suspect was inside the home," Hoyal said. "We attempted several times to communicate with the suspect inside the home to have her come out."

After about 45 minutes of negotiating, the 33-year-old woman exited the house, along with another adult male and two children, Hoyal said. While officers were going through the house to make sure everyone was out, they found two dogs that were seized by animal control officers.

The woman, Tranon Stepter, was being questioned by detectives. The other man and children who were in the house were not arrested.

Several neighbors said there had been several "issues" with the house for several weeks, including frequent traffic at all hours of the day and loud people.

"(Police) finally came in and took care of the issues we've been having across the street over there," said neighbor Ralynn Buttars. "People in and out, constantly every single day. All night long. Lots of noise, lots of racket."

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
