MIDVALE — Between 200 and 250 workers were evacuated after construction crews damaged a natural gas line.

Early Wednesday morning, construction crews working on a trenching operation within the Salt Lake County Public Works Facility, 604 W. 6960 South, ruptured a 4-inch natural gas line, Unified Fire Department reported.

Questar crews responded to the scene, working to repair the rupture. Unified fire Battalion Chief Lee Ascarte said the wind was blowing some of the natural gas out of the area, but crews were concerned it may blow into other buildings in the complex.

Around 200 employees of the complex were evacuated, but were expected to return early Wednesday afternoon once natural gas readings in the buildings were clear.

A near by TRAX line was unaffected by the rupture.
