MILLCREEK — Police are searching for a man who struck a female cyclist and then circled back before leaving the woman in critical condition in Millcreek Tuesday morning.

The cyclist, a 43-year-old-woman, was riding her bike southbound on the shoulder of 2300 East when she was clipped by the driver, police said. She was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

Unified Police are searching for the driver. Lt. Justin Hoyal said the driver did some other dangerous driving along the road. He said police don't know if the man was drunk, distracted or tired.

"We don't know if he was impaired, or if he looked down, or what ultimately caused him to drift off to the right to strike this bicyclist," Hoyal said. "That's why we want to talk to him — to see why he drifted over."

Hoyal said the driver went into Fresh Market's parking lot in Millcreek and almost hit another car this morning. He said the Fresh Market at 3900 South and 2300 East provided surveillance video.

The driver was described as a white male in his 30s with short, spikey brown hair. Unified Police said he had a 2001-2003 Acura with extensive damage to the passenger side's windshield and front fender and a temporary registration tag.
