WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A former FBI agent has been charged with soliciting thousands of dollars to hand over confidential information to someone who wanted to harm a prominent citizen of Bangladesh.

The U.S. attorney's office said Friday that the ex-agent, Robert Lustyik, is charged with conspiracy, bribe-receiving and disclosing a document. His friend Johannes Thaler is charged with conspiracy and bribery. And their would-be customer, Rizve Ahmed, is charged with conspiracy and bribery.

The complaint says Lustyik and Thaler solicited payments from Ahmed, and accepted at least $1,000, for confidential information including a "suspicious activity report" about the Bangladesh citizen, whose name was not made public.

Lustyik is jailed in Utah in a separate conspiracy case. His defense attorney did not return calls. Lawyers for Thaler and Ahmed would not comment.
