DUCHESNE — A Heber City man is scheduled to appear in court next month after sheriff's deputies said he stole 15,000 shotgun shells from a pheasant hunting preserve in Duchesne County.

Tyler Wayne Hardman was working for a company that leases warehouse space from the Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve near Myton when he saw a pallet loaded with 60 cases of 12-gauge shotgun shells, Duchesne County sheriff's deputy Wayland McGary said.

Hardman, 35, made three trips between Myton and Heber City, ferrying 20 cases of shells on each trip in his Buick LeSabre, the deputy said.

He told me when he saw them, all he saw was dollar signs.

Hardman's car was parked outside the warehouse when the theft was discovered July 22. A witness told deputies that days earlier the car's rear end was sagging so low he suspected its suspension was broken, but it appeared to have been repaired.

Deputies questioned Hardman about his car's sagging suspension and he eventually led them to the stolen shotgun shells, McGary said.

"He told me when he saw them, all he saw was dollar signs," the deputy said.

Authorities estimate the value of the theft at $10,000. Hardman is due in court Aug. 8 for a preliminary hearing.
