WEST VALLEY CITY — Police arrested four teenagers and are searching for one more. All of them are suspects in a home break-in early Wednesday morning.

West Valley police say several people broke into a vehicle parked at the house of Daniel Guzman around 5 a.m. then used the garage door opener to enter the house.

"They were trying to steal my truck," Guzman said. "They opened up my garage and they went into my house into the kitchen and they stole my wife's personal stuff. Her purse and my cellphone and my wallet, it was all on the table in the kitchen."

The intruders took the keys to the homeowner's gray pickup truck and stole the vehicle. Guzman said after he heard a commotion, he saw the burglars leave in his pickup truck and he called police.

A few minutes later officers spotted the truck and tried to make a traffic stop. The driver of the pickup led officers on a chase instead.

The pursuit ended when the truck crashed on a Frontage Road near 2150 South and 3600 West.

"The victim's vehicle ended up spinning out and colliding with a fence," said Sgt. Steve Burke with the West Valley City Police Department.

The suspects, all between the ages of 14 and 17, then became aggressive with the officer.

"(He) pulled up to the vehicle where they attempted to ram him. So he pulled up closer just to keep the vehicle here," Burke explained.

All of the suspects then fled on foot. Officers arrested all but one of the five teens who remains at large.

The four who were arrested likely will be taken to juvenile detention and could face charges for stealing the vehicle, residential burglary and leading officers on a chase.

Despite the fact that the burglars are teens, Guzman said that he hopes they face justice for their actions.

"I work hard," he said. "(I) work 10 or nine hours a day to provide, and it was just ripped from me so I hope they prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."
