COALVILLE, Summit County — Two women were killed in a car crash near Coalville Saturday afternoon.
Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Kallie Nelson, 29, was driving a white Mazda four-door sedan eastbound on I-80 northeast of Coalville when she crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic for an unknown reason, Utah Highway Patrol reported. The Mazda struck a westbound-traveling Mercury SUV, killing its driver, Judith Nethercott, 65.
Nelson was also killed in the crash. No other occupants were in the vehicles at the time of the crash, UHP said.
The crash closed westbound lanes of the interstate in the area Saturday afternoon, diverting traffic for several hours afterward.
UHP officials said a poor cell phone signal hindered initial reporting of the crash.
