SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Logan man accused of not feeding, watering or sheltering his horses during the winter months has pleaded guilty to 25 counts of animal cruelty.

The Herald Journal reports 57-year-old Darwin Layne Nielson pleaded guilty Monday to all counts against him. He's scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 19.

Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor that carries a potential sentence of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The Utah State Veterinarian's Office says Nielson wasn't providing the minimum standard of care.

Officials say one colt died while Cache County deputies were investigating the horse owner, and another died about a month later.
