WEST VALLEY CITY — One man was injured Thursday when someone fired a shotgun into a home in West Valley City.
Several shotgun rounds were fired at close range into a home near 2700 South and 7000 West at about 6:30 p.m, according to Lt. Rick McLenon with the West Valley City Police Department.
Though there were multiple people in the home, only one man, 20, received minor injuries. McLenon said he was treated at the scene and not transported to a hospital.
No suspect has been identified, though the incident is still in the early stages of investigation, McLenon said.
The only witnesses appear to be the home's occupants, though several shots were fired. MecLenon said that could be because neighbors mistook the shots for fireworks.
Police found two footprints in the mud and two shell casings on the ground outside of a window of the home.
"It could have been a lot worse," McLenon said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the West Valley City Police Department at 801-840-4000.
