SANDY — Sandy police are searching for a man who allegedly physically assaulted a woman in a car before being Tased by an officer and fleeing on foot.

Sgt. Jon Arnold said police received a call at about 7:30 p.m. Monday reporting a man apparently assaulting a woman in a vehicle. A license plate number provided by the witness came back as belonging to a stolen car.

An officer in the area stopped the vehicle at about 1000 E. Sego Lily Drive (9800 South). The male driver exited the vehicle and approached the officer's car, at which point the officer asked him to lie on the ground.

The male passenger then moved into the driver's seat and attempted to start the vehicle, Arnold said. At that point, the officer approached the driver's side door.

As he came out the window, the officer Tased him, and ultimately got him in the hip.

"(The passenger) lunged out the window at the officer," Arnold said. "As he came out the window, the officer Tased him, and ultimately got him in the hip."

The man pulled the Taser prongs out of his hip and fled on foot. The officer, who was alone, remained at the scene with the driver of the car, who was taken into custody, and the female passenger.

Additional officers and K9's were in the area Monday evening to search for the suspect, Brian Platt. Arnold said Platt, about 35, was wearing a black sleeveless shirt, had short brown hair and tattoos down his arms and on his neck, and is 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds.
