SALT LAKE CITY — Elham Nielson relies on her car to get to work and mostly to care for her elderly mom. She stores her life in her car because she is always on the go.

On June 10, she ran into the Deseret Industries in Sugar House. She was in a rush to buy a dresser drawer before heading to work and says she accidentally left her keys in the car, along with her purse and other valuables.

"Unconsciously, I dropped them at the bottom. I don't know why I did that," Nielson said. "I had my camera and credit cards."

KSL obtained surveillance video from Nielson and Salt Lake city police. The video shows the woman walking into the Deseret Industries store and then canvass it. Moments later, the woman walked out and drive off in a 2001 white Chevy Malibu.

"She took part of my life," Nielson said.

To add insult to injury, Nielson said the woman used her credit card to buy gas at Maverik and then stole from her again.

"Then she had the nerve the next day to drive my car into the storage and steal my stuff," Nielson said.

Nielson said the woman stole thousands of dollars in jewelry and other valuables from her storage unit at the Stor-N-Lock on 3410 South Redwood Road. Nielson said the woman found her key and access code in her car.

According to a Stor-N-Lock employee, who asked not to be identified, the company policy dictates employees of the storage facility only release information to the person on the contract and that person must show a state issued ID.

Police ask if anyone sees a white Chevy Malibu with license plate Y619NE, call 801-799-3000.

A Deseret Industries representative told KSL other stores have had cars stolen from parking lots recently.

"We need to get her off the street so she doesn't do anymore damage to other people," Nielson said.

Investigators said don't have any leads at this point but are asking people to be on the lookout for a white four-door Chevy Malibu with tinted windows and license plate Y619NE.

Police ask if residents see this car, call 801-799-3000.
