SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Thursday evening after Transportation Security Administration officers located a loaded firearm strapped to his prosthetic leg in the Salt Lake City International airport.

Jeffery Adam McClure was going through a security checkpoint in the airport when his firearm was detected by an Advanced Imaging Technology unit. TSA officers conducted a routine screening and found a Jennings 22 pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition and one bullet in the chamber strapped to McClure's prosthetic leg inside his boot.

McClure was ticketed for travel to Charlotte. He was arrested by Salt Lake City Airport Police on a state charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Secure Area.

TSA officers said this is the third person who has carried a firearm through the airport in the past week, and the 19th person during the year.

"Once you've entered the screening process, it is too late to say 'Oops, I forgot,' " said TSA spokesperson, Lorie Dankers. "So please know before you get there."

TSA stated that individuals may only travel with a firearm in checked baggage.
