SALT LAKE CITY — Police were looking Tuesday for a man who allegedly grabbed a woman and tried to pull her into his car.

About 8 a.m. Monday, a 27-year-old woman had just dropped her children off at school and was walking home near 900 North and 1800 West when a man in a car pulled up next to her and tried to talk her into getting in, said Salt Lake police detective Mike Hamideh.

"She ignores him and keeps walking," he said.

Suspect description
  • Polynesian man
  • Between 18 and 21 years old
  • 5 feet 6 inches tall, 200 pounds, muscular build
  • Wearing a white T-shirt with green stripes and a blue baseball cap

The man then allegedly got out of his car, "grabbed her by the arms and starts pulling her toward the car," Hamideh said.

The woman "physically resisted" the man and was able to break free and run away.

She described her would-be abductor as a Polynesian man, between 18 and 21 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 200 pounds with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with green stripes and a blue baseball cap.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
