NEW YORK — Robert Downey Jr. is currently one of the busiest men on the planet as he juggles press junkets, interviews and screenings for his new film "Iron Man 3" this weekend. As busy as the superstar is, however, he's still finding time for the truly important things.
The Police Athletic League, or PAL, in New York City is a charity where officers donate their time to help kids stay active and out of trouble while having a mentor.
PAL held a special pre-screening of "Iron Man 3" for the youth when a very special guest showed up unannounced.
Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., showed up to chat with the kids before they watched the film.
"When I was growing up there was an organization called Kelly's Heroes that was kind of like an offshoot of something like PAL," Downey told the eager crowd. "It kept me out of trouble, and look where I ended up."
Downey went on to compliment all those who volunteer their time to the PAL program and had a special message for the kids.
"Iron Man 3" opens Friday, May 3, 2013.
