LOGAN — A man looking to buy marijuana was busted after he texted the wrong number.

The man texted "What's up?" to the number of a Logan man, who asked to remain anonymous. The Logan man had just gotten a new phone, but hadn't saved his old contacts yet. So when the unsaved number popped up on his phone he thought it could have been a friend.

"He texted, ‘Do you know who this is?' I said, ‘No.' He said, ‘Chris from New Orleans,'" he recalled, replaying the conversation.

So no, it wasn't a friend. He played along for a bit, and found out "Chris from New Orleans" was actually in Logan. Then the text conversation took a turn.

"I was trying to see if you knew anybody with any," Chris texted.

"Any what?" the Logan man replied.

"Smoke smoke," he texted back.

He called the police the next morning and they asked him to try to negotiate a price with the mysterious texter and to set up a place to meet.

The cops told me to give him an address, so I gave him an address to a vacant house that they have and they left it in the mailbox. I told him to leave the money in the mailbox, so he went to do a pick up and they busted him.

"The cops told me to give him an address, so I gave him an address to a vacant house that they have and they left it in the mailbox," he said. "I told him to leave the money in the mailbox, so he went to do a pick up and they busted him."

When the man came to pick up the weed, cops took him in.

"The detective took me with him and I got to see the whole thing," said the Logan man, adding Chris was wide-eyed and clearly surprised to be busted.

Logan police confirmed the story, but they said they are still actively investigating the case and unable to release any details of the suspect.
