Potential bomb threat closes Highway 163

SAN JUAN — Utah Highway Patrol has confirmed it is assisting in the closure of Highway 163 after San Juan County officials were alerted to a potential bomb threat on a tour bus.

San Juan County officials received the tip at 1:30 Monday afternoon, and began checking the bus for explosive devices. The bus was located on Highway 163 in Monument Valley.

All passengers have been evacuated from the bus, UHP said.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office bomb squad is flying down to San Juan County to sweep the bus for explosives.

The FBI has also been contacted and is involved in the ongoing investigation.

At this time, there is no information on the tipster or a suspect.
