SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert traveled to California Thursday on a trade mission of sorts.

The governor plans visit the headquarters of some companies already doing business in Utah, as well as several companies that don't have ties to the state.

Deseret News:

Herbert wants to encourage those companies to consider Utah as a business destination. He'll do so by highlighting some of the strengths the state has to offer, such as the ability to do business throughout the world.

"We're encouraging them: as you look to expend your businesses, and take advantage of a growing economy global in nature, Utah ought to be considered," Herbert said.

The governor will focus mainly on high-tech companies. He said now is the time to reach out because of the competition for their business.
