DEER VALLEY — A skier died after hitting a tree at Deer Valley Resort on Thursday afternoon.

James Kimball, 38, was skiing the Little Bell run close to the intersection with the Solid Muldoon run at 12 p.m. when he hit a tree, according to Deer Valley resort spokesperson Emily Summers.

Summers said that ski patrol arrived on the scene of the accident and pronounced Kimball dead. They determined Kimball died on impact due to severe head trauma. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Silver Lake Express chairlift as well as the Little Bell and Solid Muldoon ski runs were closed for about two hours while Park City police officers investigated the accident.

Kimball was skiing alone, but other skiers witnessed the accident.

Summers said Kimball had previously worked at Deer Valley as a seasonal employee between 1994 and 2001.
