SALT LAKE CITY — As Easter approaches, communities, churches, restaurants and families are preparing to celebrate and observe the holiday.

Below, we've compiled a list of a few of the things Salt Lake and Utah counties are offering.

Brunch

For those who prefer to leave the cooking to someone else and just spend time with family, restaurants throughout the valley offer Easter brunches on Sunday, March 31.

At the Grand America's Garden Cafe, the Easter Brunch offerings include regular brunch items and fresh seafood, sushi, roasts and special desserts. The cafe also has pint-sized offerings for children. Reservations are required. More information can be found on the Grand America website.

The Gathering Place at Gardner Village will serve crepes, omelets, and other breakfast items alongside lunch items, desserts, and a chocolate fountain on Easter Sunday. People will be seated on a first-come first-serve basis, as reservations are not accepted. For information about times and costs, visit GarnerVillage.com.

Easter Egg Hunts

Sometimes, hunting for eggs with strange kids is more fun, or family is far away. And sometimes, an Easter egg hunt is the easiest thing to hand over to another person so you can just watch your kid have a good time.

Thanksgiving Point's Easter Eggstreme held in Electric Park is a popular egg hunt in Utah County. The hunt is divided into age group, and five hunts are scheduled per group. Other activities include a train, sack race, obstacle course and wagon and pony rides. For pricing and schedules, visit Thanksgiving Point's website.

In addition to their Easter morning brunch, the Homestead Resort in Midway will host an Easter egg hunt for children. The hunt begins at noon. More information on their website.

Across the valley, families can find no-frills Easter egg hunts. South Jordan, South Salt Lake, Taylorsville, Midvale, Cottonwood Heights, Draper and Herriman are among cities hosting hunts. For more information, click on the city's name.

In Utah County, Cedar Hills is hosting a free teen (11 and older) flashlight Easter egg hunt Friday night at the Community Recreation Center, as well as an after party. Saturday, a kid's hunt will be held at Heritage Park. More details about the teen hunt and kid's hunt online.

Religious events

Churches throughout the valley are holding religious services.

The Cathedral of the Madeleine is honoring Easter with services throughout the week. Thursday, they will hold the Mass of the Lord's Supper, Good Friday service will be held on March 27 in both English and Spanish, an Easter vigil will be held Saturday, and Easter day services will take place throughout the day Sunday. For times and language options, visit the cathedral's website.

Mount Tabor Lutheran Church will be holding Maundy, Good Friday, and a Festival Eucharist services Thursday to Sunday. In addition to their religious services, the church will also host an Easter breakfast and egg hunt. Dates and times can be found online.

Other

Visit the Easter Bunny over afternoon tea at the Grand America on Saturday. The tea will include a variety of finger sandwiches, scones, and jams. More details on the Grand America website.
