WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have arrested a suspect in a Sunday shooting that left one man dead inside a West Valley City home.
Police said someone contacted them at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday night to report gunshots at a home near 2400 South and Redwood Road.
"We believe one of the residents inside heard the shots and called police," said Sgt. Jason Hauer with West Valley City Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found the male victim in his mid-40s on the floor just inside the door. He appeared to have been shot multiple times.
Police followed up on several leads, and eventually arrested 61-year-old Roberto Tolanjo Romero Monday afternoon.
They said he told detectives he had been arguing with one of the residents and then shot him, fleeing the scene afterward.
A firearm thought to have used in the incident was also located, police said.
Police said the victim was deceased by the time they arrived, and a language barrier with other tenants initially prevented them from finding out what happened.
Sgt. Hauer said the home had apparently been rented out to multiple people by room.
"There appears to be about six to 10 people living in the residence. We don't know exactly what the relationship is between our victim and the potential suspect(s)," he said.
Spanish-speaking police officers spoke with some of the tenants of the house.
Police said they don't have a motive for the killing.
