SALT LAKE CITY — Smoke forced a plane from Salt Lake International Airport to turn around and land just after takeoff Saturday morning.
The plane, bound for Florida, was de-icing Saturday morning, and the captain warned the passengers that there may be some smoke in the cabin, but not to worry, according to passenger Blake Scarbrough.
Nevertheless, after takeoff, so much of the smoke filled the cabin that bathroom smoke detectors went off, forcing the plane to return to the ground, said Scarbrough, who tweeted a picture of the smoke-filled cabin.
Scarbrough said the smoke had a chemical smell to it, and several people complained of headaches or respiratory problems as a result.
He said he was delayed over four hours, but Delta airlines brought in a new plane, as well as giving passengers a $25 meal voucher.
