FARMINGTON — Police are hoping newly released photos of an alleged bank robber will lead to a tip that will help them track the man down.

A woman contacted the Farmington Police Department Thursday morning to report a possible interaction with the alleged robber of the Zions Bank located at 1663 N. Main Street in Farmington.

Police received a call at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday reporting the robbery. A man had approached the teller window and asked the teller to fill a bag with money. The suspect then fled on foot toward a neighborhood east of the bank, although witnesses later reported seeing the man get into a tan car.

A man who appears to be the alleged robber had pproached a woman Wednesday at about 4:40 p.m. at the Smith's Fuel Center at 1316 N. Highway 89 in Farmington, according to Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen.

"We're pretty confident he's our suspect," Hansen said. "He approached her and asked to borrow $10 for gas. She remembered him because he made her feel really nervous and weird."

Hansen said the woman got home Wednesday night and, after seeing media coverage about the robbery, realized she had spoken with the alleged robber earlier that day. She reported it to the police, who pulled surveillance footage at the gas station.

The surveillance footage shows the man in a tan Chevy Lumina. The back passenger-side door is painted with gray primer.

"That matches the previous description of the car, and it was the clothing he was wearing in the robbery," Hansen said. "I think somebody is going to recognize that car, and his clothing and everything."
