OREM — Another Utah Highway Patrol trooper was struck while on the side of the freeway Tuesday, prompting officials to again urge caution to drivers.
At 3:12 p.m. on southbound I-15 near University Parkway, a UHP trooper pulled over a vehicle to the emergency lane for a traffic violation.
While the trooper was in his truck, the driver of another car lost control, hitting the concrete wall. The car overturned and slid into UHP truck.
According to UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson, a semitrailer driver honked at the car and trooper during the incident, but did not stop. UHP is looking for the driver of that truck to get a statement about the accident.
The trooper sustained minor injuries, and his truck was badly damaged in back.
"People need to slow down and move away from the emergency vehicles," Johnson said.
In the 2013 calendar year, 14 troopers have been involved in accidents while they are pulled over in the emergency lanes.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation of the accident. No names had been released, and no cause had been determined Tuesday afternoon.
