SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City man is accused of stealing $35,000 in silver coins and $4,000 in jewelry from his grandmother and trying to sell them.

Jordan Thomas Rousay, 25, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with one count of theft, a second-degree felony.

According to charging documents, Rousay attempted to sell the coins Tuesday, but an employee at the shop where he took them suspected they were stolen and alerted police.

After being arrested, Rousay told police he took the coins because he had already been accused of stealing them, according to charging documents.

Rousay also was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
