SALT LAKE CITY — Those at Weber State didn't need any convincing, but the rest of the NBA is quickly getting educated on the greatness that is the Blazers' Damian Lillard.

The former Wildcat is averaging 18.8 points and 6.3 assists per game, which lead all rookies.

Sunday night, Lillard didn't have his best game statistically, 16 points (on 5-14 shooting) and four assists, but that didn't stop him from taking and nailing the game-winning shot against the New Orleans Hornets.

Lillard gets a screen from Luke Babbitt then hits the game-winning three-pointer over Ryan Anderson as time expires.

Lillard's clutch shot comes on the heels of one of his best games against the San Antonio Spurs in which he tallied 29 points, six assists and seven rebounds in the 98-90 win.

ESPN's David Thorpe says if Lillard, "He's been the best rookie who has played full time since Day 1."

I couldn't agree more.

Brandon "The Beast" Davies

BYU's Brandon Davies had a career night Saturday scoring 33 points earning himself the WCC Player of the Week honors.

Davies also grabbed eight rebounds and had one blocked shot in the 78-68 win over Weber State, BYU's first road win of the season, snapping the Wildcats' 20-game home winning streak, the fourth-longest home streak in the nation.

Davies hit 14 of 17 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the Cougars victory.

Football FacialNo matter how good the play or performance, sometimes the celebration leaves something to be desired.

In the St. Louis Rams' loss Sunday to the Minnesota Vikings, wide receiver Danny Amendola scored a touchdown on a pass from quarterback Sam Bradford.

Not sure if Amendola was overly joyed or taking his frustration out on the ball (he's missed significant time with a broken clavicle and foot injury), but Amendola's spike caromed right into the face of an usher in the back of the end zone, breaking his glasses.

Not what Amendola was hoping for, I'm sure. And certainly not what the innocent usher was expecting.

Triple Whammy

I've seen triple plays, hat tricks, 3-pointers, field goals, but never in my life have I seen three guys get hit in the face by the same ball on the same play.

It happened in a recent volleyball match and has quickly gained fame as the "Epic Volleyball Spike."

The funny part is how nonchalantly the players react after getting drilled in the noggin.

Psychedelic ShoesAmerican swimmer Ryan Lochte is known for his wide variety and eccentric taste in shoes.

On Sunday Lochte showed off a pair of those shoes on the medal stand following the 200 meters backstroke at the FINA Short Course Swimming World Championships in Istanbul.

The shoes of choice? A pair of psychedelic bears.

I think by 11-year-old daughter asked for the same pair for Christmas.
