Andrew Adams, KSL Newsradio and the APA bill that toughens laws against people that sexually abuse children is getting support from key lawmakers and others.

The bill makes attempted sexual assault on a child punishable by 15 years to life behind bars. A committed offense would bring 25 years to life.

Representative Carl Wimmer says House Speaker Greg Curtis likes his bill, and so does the governor.

The bill is basically a modified version of the so-called Jessica's Law, named after 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford. She was kidnapped, repeatedly raped, then murdered by a convicted sex offender.

Gov. Huntsman is expected to speak in support of the proposal at a news conference Monday, along with Curtis.
