SALT LAKE CITY — Wednesday night's Utes basketball game against Boise State was all about honoring former coach Rick Majerus, who coached at Utah from 1989 to 2004.

Majerus passed away Dec. 1 due to prolonged complications with his heart.

The Utes honored Majerus with a moment of silence before the game and set aside an empty chair on the Utes bench displaying a replica sweater that Majerus used to wear.

"All the assistant coaches are wearing a sweater," said Tommy Connor, current Utah assistant coach, who also played and coached under Majerus.

"We have this commemorative ribbon and little patch, and then Coack Krystkowiak will have his own look," Connor said. "I think it's a great thing, and I'm glad we're doing it."

Fans who attended the game received a red and white patch with the initials "RM".

For their part, the basketball team honored the former coach by putting a win in the record books.

Later in the season, the Utes will honor Majerus again by hanging his replica sweater in the rafters at the Huntsman Center.
