SALT LAKE CITY — In honor of Small Business Saturday, one local band will put on a free show to help raise funds for a pizza place that was recently burglarized.

It's a beautiful story of giving back. A few months ago, Spedelli's, a pizza restaurant in Salt Lake City, helped raise money for a band when they had $600 stolen. Now, that band is returning the favor.

The restaurant was burglarized about two weeks ago. Windows were smashed and the register was stolen. A $200 break in turned into approximately a $3,000 repair bill.

"We noticed the window was smashed and we came by and someone had chucked a rock through the door and stole the register," said Spedelli's co-owner Sam Spedale, who opened the pizza restaurant with his brother Mac.

With their signature mustaches, Sam and Mac, two 20-year-old California transplants helped turn a neighborhood pizzeria into a community fixture over the past year.

"We have live music and events here just located up in the foothills close to the mountains, and we have a good view of the city," Mac Spedale said.

When I first heard about it, I was super bummed and wanted to make sure that we tried our hardest to get them take care of.

–Jacob Hall

News of the burglary was devastating to Jacob Hall and his band, "Daisy & the Moonshines," who have been part of the live music scene at Spedelli's for about a year.

"When I first heard about it, I was super bummed and wanted to make sure that we tried our hardest to get them take care of," Hall said. "It really sucks to see because we've been in that same scenario."

Hall's band was reluctant to play at Spedelli's when they were first invited about a year ago. He said it was a "ridiculous idea" for the band to play at a pizzeria. Now, the restaurant is like a second home for Hall and his band.

"Ever since then, we've played (at Spedelli's) once a month because we love these guys so much and love what they're trying to do," Hall said.

The band will play a free show at Spedelli's (2352 Foothill Drive) on Saturday from 8 p.m. until close.
