KAYSVILLE — An elementary school in Kaysville has found a way to get more dads involved at school, and the kids and dads love it.

Dr. Brian Miles makes his way with the equipment cart to the kindergarten wing at Endeavor Elementary.

"I'm just here to help with whatever they need," he said.

His schedule has him starting the day volunteering in his son Lincoln's classroom. Later he'll go to his two older children's classrooms. He'll help at recess and eat lunch with his kids.

"I think it's a great opportunity to do something. It's so easy, but it can have a huge effect," he said. "There are other things I could be doing today, but I can't think of anything more important. It was an easy thing to sign up for and I am happy to do it."

PTA President Camille Quinton says Dads Day at Endeavor, or DATE, has been an eye-opener for many people.

"We've had some feedback and the dads saying, 'I didn't realize how much work the teachers put into their day,'" she said.

They have about two to three dads scheduled to come each week, and they love it. Dr. Miles is a dentist with an office in South Ogden, and member of the military. The school has also had a federal parole officer and FBI agent come. The male presence has been great for the kids at this school, which has only one male faculty member.

"I think the kids need it. The boys need it on the playground, and the girls too," Quinton said.

She says many companies in the area encourage the program and give their employees the time off to volunteer.
