KEARNS -- Two known gang members face charges after taking police on a chase through Taylorsville.

A Unified police officer tried to pull over their car for a traffic violation around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, but they sped away, according to Lt. Steve Shreeve of the Unified Police Department. Four blocks away they smashed into a parked car.

They made it two more blocks before crashing into a tree at 3960 W. Ridgecrest Drive. Lt. Shreeve says the two tried to get out, but the officer quickly arrested them.

Investigators discovered the car was stolen. They found a stolen and loaded pistol inside.

"It was a very short pursuit in distance and in duration, but fortunately two gang members and one loaded handgun are off the street," Lt. Shreeve said.

The suspects' names have not yet been released, but Lt. Shreeve says they are known gang members. One is 34 years old; the other is 29 years old. Both are from the Salt Lake area.
