WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have arrested a man wanted for upwards of 40 burglaries throughout the valley.

Tyler Andrew Conti, 29, has been arrested for a spree of burglaries that have occurred over the last few weeks. A black Dodge Charger rented to the man has connected him to dozens of burglaries around the valley, the majority of which have taken place in Cottonwood Heights and West Valley City.

KMP Staffing in Cottonwood Heights was burglarized last week by Conti, police said. The company lost about $5,000 worth of computers during the burglary. The thief broke in with a crowbar.

Police say Conti cased the business for several days before making his move, and that they have surveillance video of his rented black charger driving the parking lot.

KMP Staffing Co-Owner Tyler Wood says the most frustrating part of the burglary isn't the property damage, but losing important company information stored on the computers.

"It wasn't just the loss of equipment but the loss of information that we lost: the backup drive, two years of data, its gut-wrenching" Wood said.

During the burglaries on Wednesday, police say Conti stole a wallet out of adjoining business, American Income Life. Hours later he is shown on surveillance video making several purchases around the valley with a credit card from the wallet.

Friday, police asked the public to help identify the man in the video, and after someone identified Conti, he was arrested in Grantsville.

"We think the video speaks for itself; It's clearly him in the video using the stolen credit card. We realized that he does have an extensive criminal history for previous thefts and burglaries," said Cottonwood Heights Police Department Sgt. Mark Askerlund.

Conti faces several felonies and a parole violation. He got out of jail in January for burglary.
