Suspect enters plea in shooting death of police officer

OGDEN — The man accused of shooting at police officers in Ogden, killing one and injuring five, pleaded not guilty to all charges in an arraignment hearing Wednesday.

Matthew David Stewart is accused of opening fire on officers of the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force as they attempted to serve a warrant at his home Jan. 4. Stewart is charged with:

  • Aggravated murder, a capital offense
  • Seven counts of attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony
  • Producing a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.

Police removed 16 marijuana plants from Stewart's residence at 3268 Jackson Ave. following the shooting that killed Ogden police officer Jared Francom.
