SOUTH JORDAN — Some South Jordan students are coming to the aid of sixth graders in Indiana who lost their school to a tornado. Adults didn't have to prompt them to do it.
Elk Meadows Elementary will hold a fundraising carnival this afternoon to raise funds for paper, pencils and basic supplies that often are forgotten after a tragedy. The items will go to students in Borden, Indiana, where a tornado hit earlier this month.

Elk Meadows student Katherine Nguyen says the Indiana students' situation is dire. "Their whole school was leveled by a tornado and one of their houses got flattened completely," she said.
Another student, Brooke Holliday, says she and her peers drew posters and went to every classroom to rally support for the fundraiser, which will be held on campus this afternoon.
The Elk Meadows Elementary students connected with the afflicted kids in Indiana through an online math competition.
